There’s a whole school of thought out there that says that we’d all be a lot better off if we didn’t have so many choices. That we’d be happier if, say, we didn’t have to worry about which of the available 5,000 styles of jeans to buy, or, thinking more broadly, if not every career path or place of residence were a distinct and real possibility for us. The sheer amount of options we’re faced with, they say, puts pressure on us – a pressure that makes us feel miserable and ashamed and, ironically enough, causes us to often make really poor choices.
For the most part, I tend to agree with this line of thinking. I hate how much time I spend worrying about stupid shit that doesn’t matter. But I do it anyways, even though I know it’s stupid, because those choices are there.
When it comes to the NFL, though – excuse me, THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE – it’s a totally different story. This Sunday, instead of being treated to a full slate of games at the local watering hole, I found myself on my parents’ couch with access to only two. The early game? Bengals-Browns. The late game? Vikings-Bears. Vince Young’s 99-yard comeback drive? Only a rumor to me.
How terrible is that?
When it comes it football, give me as many choices as I can handle. Throw the kitchen sink at me. I don’t want simplicity, I want progress, dammit! Whatever it takes, just keep me from being stuck with Bengals-Browns. I’ll do anything.
All of this is to say: I have no real idea of what went on in fantasy football yesterday. I know that my team did well and that the team I faced did not so well. Having said that, here are some random fantasy thoughts for you to chew on:
- The whole “Ricky Williams is this year’s DeAngelo Williams” thing rolls on.
- Vince Young just wins (fantasy) football games. 387 yards? Good God Almighty. Jeff Fisher should still be fired.
- LT’s enjoying a nice swansong, isn’t he? Guy deserves it, I guess. And on that offense, there’s no reason he can’t keep scoring all these TDs, even if he can’t deliver huge yardage totals.
- Some Bills musings: 1) Pick up Fred Jackson. 2) I guess we have to start paying attention to T.O. again. 3) It was nice of Perry Fewell to take time off from Jane’s Addiction to coach the team.
- After he schooled Nnamdi, I’m tempted to change my mind on Miles Austin again. Alright, I’m back on board.
- If you’re desperate for an RB, don’t look now, but Correll Buckhalter is getting 20 carries a game.
- Josh Freeman. Who knew?
- Justin Forsett is making a lot of people in the RexQB league look very stupid, including yours truly. Guy’s got 368 yards and 4 TDs in his past three games, and he’s got the Niners, Texans, and Bucs the next three weeks.
- Larry Johnson ran for 4.9 yards per carry yesterday. Bears mentioning, for this year and next.
- Chris Redman alert! I always felt like Red-man got a raw deal in Baltimore, where he was benched after a promising season to make way for eventual first round bust Kyle Boller. I’m not sure what Matty Ice’s injury status is, and I know the schedule gets rough, but he could be worth a look.
- Favre’s been great, but Manning’s the MVP.
Vince Young’s success is exactly the reason that Fisher should be fired. He had to be ordered to put the guy in the game by Bud Adams. Get someone coaching that team who is actually experiencing the 21st Century.
